A lot of people have both a dog and a cat. Possibly you have owned a dog at one point and a cat at another point in time. However, I think that the majority of people are either a "dog lover" or a "cat lover".

I am a dog person. I will admit that I am not horribly fond of cats. I am not intending to offend any cat lovers out there. It is just a personal preference. The main reason I am not overly fond of cats is that I am horribly allergic to them. The truth is, cats don’t really like me either!

Whenever I encounter a cat, it seems as if there is a standoff. I think they must sense my need to distance myself from them. The cat will eyeball me and then challenge me. It will disappear and then reappear right next to my head and give me a "Ha Ha, I got you!" kind of look. One time while I was innocently sitting down, a cat jumped right on the back of my head with its claws firmly attached.

Once again, I am not a cat hater or anything like that. My distance with cats is self preservation so that I can breathe. Animals are very sensitive to how a human reacts to them and cats seem to be aware of my hesitance. Hence, the showdown! Let it be known that while I am not a cat person, I wish all cats well.

I get along wonderfully with dogs. They all sense my love for them and always warm up to me immediately. They come back for more petting and try to give me kisses. My dog Ranger is always jealous if I come home smelling like another dog, as if I was out cheating on him!

I have heard many people proclaim themselves to either be a dog person or a cat person. Which are you and why?
