I promise this won’t turn into the all-Shadow-all-the-time blog, but he’s really come out of his shell today and I wanted to write a bit more about him. Yesterday he spent most of the day sleeping and just kind of hanging out, but today he’s been playing a lot more.
And man, he loves to play. It’s hilarious. One minute he’ll just be sitting there and the next minute he’ll be across the bathroom, stalking a stray hair or one of the catnip mice we bought for him. My daughter’s amazed by how playful he is- all she’s ever really known is our old man cats who sometimes get playful, but they’re nothing like this.
Speaking of our old men cats, they know something is definitely up. They’ve been sitting outside my bedroom door, waiting for it to open so they can catch a glimpse of Shadow. They can’t come in yet, because he’s not completely well, but they are very interested in what’s going on in there. Luckily, they’re friendly cats and I don’t think there will be much of a problem when they meet.
I was worried about my dog Tiny meeting the kitten. He puts up with our cats, but he’s not exactly a fan of them. And I didn’t know what kind of experiences Shadow’s had with dogs before, so I didn’t know if he’d go on the offensive when he met Tiny.
So far, so good, though. Every time Shadow and Tiny have met up, Shadow puffs up, but doesn’t do anything else. The very first time they met, Shadow walked right up to Tiny and Tiny backed away- it was so funny, my dog’s terrified of a one pound kitten! But they’ve gotten along fine- lots of sniffing and walking around each other, but they seem to get along fine.
Oh, having a kitten is a joy!

After you've introduced Shadow, I feel my biological cat clock ticking. I want a kitten.
