The Kitten Meets The Old Men

Jeffrahams_catsI borrowed this picture of my favorite cat blogger’s cats playing because I can’t get a good shot of my cats playing at ALL. My camera’s too slow, the cats are too fast. I keep getting shots of just a tail or sometimes, just my floor. Never the cats in action. Must work on my photography skills.

So, Shadow went back to the vet this week for a recheck and all checked out fine. He’s in good shape and has even gained half a pound. Go, kitten, go! The vet said it would be okay for him to meet the other kitties, so home we went to make introductions.

As I suspected, Spike was pretty friendly from the get-go. Shadow walked right up to him and Spike looked at him like, "What, dude?" Within an hour, Spike was playing the kitten game that he had played with Simon when they were little. Spike pounds his tail on the floor. The other cat tries to catch the tail, unsuccessfully. Wash, rinse, repeat.

Simon, on the other hand, was not a fan at the beginning. He spent the first half of the day hissing at Shadow every time he came near. As of last night, though, Simon has come around and has been playing with Shadow. It’s a "I’m the top cat and you must bow to my superior ways" kind of playing, but it’s still playing.

I had wondered how it would all play out, but it seems it’s working out well. It’s funny, Shadow is full of kitten energy and plays constantly. Spike and Simon aren’t so full of energy, so they don’t always play when Shadow wants to. Last night Shadow jumped on Spike, and Spike who is easily three times Shadow’s size and about 20 times his weight didn’t even move. He just blinked at Shadow like, "Not now, man, I need my beauty rest."

Ah, the endless entertainment of having cats in the house.
