    Sneezy Cat, Sneezy Cat

Img_0379What a weekend. Yesterday morning my youngest son woke me up saying the kitten was coughing and sneezing blood. Not good. I packed him and the kids up and we dashed to the 24 hour vet’s office.

The vet listened to his lungs and told me she’d like to get a chest x-ray on him, because it sounded like pneumonia. Arrrgh. The x-ray showed that he did, indeed, have pneumonia in one of his lungs. It seems the antibiotics he had been on hadn’t fully cleared up the infection, and it had moved down into his lungs.

Remember I had introduced him to my other cats? Yeah. Spike has asthma, so he’s somewhat immune compromised when it comes to this sort of stuff. The vet told me to watch him carefully to see if he was sneezing more than normal, and if so, to bring him on in.

Last night at midnight, Spike started sneezing his head off. I called the vet and got an appointment for this morning so I didn’t have to pay emergency vet fees. Took him in this morning and he was running a fever, and the vet said Spike’s now got an upper respiratory infection. The good news? It looked like we caught it very early and his lungs sounded good, for a cat with asthma, anyway. 2 shots later, we were on our way home.

So now I have 2 cats quarantined- Spike in the laundry room, Shadow in the bathroom that he is so very, very tired of. The vet said we could let Spike out as soon as his fever went away, but the kitten needs to stay quarantined for 2 weeks in the bathroom. Sorry, Shadow.

The cat I feel sorriest for is Simon, who wanders around the house meowing, looking for his buddies and only finding the dog. He’s so lonely, I think he might just decide to befriend Tiny, much to Tiny’s chagrin.
