    Kitty Needs A Haircut

Not the best picture of her, but it’s all I have since I still can’t find my camera cord. She’s way overdue for a trip to the groomer’s, but I hate to take her and have her fur cut, since I think all the pretty black on her will go away once she’s trimmed, other than on her face.

In other news, can anyone recommend a great groomer in either Murfreesboro, TN, or Nashville?

Possibly The Cutest Dog I Have Ever Seen

Over in the Dog Lovers community on Livejournal, poster alleykitten posts about her hike with her dog, Emma. Seriously, this dog is one of the cutest I have ever seen, besides my dogs, naturally. Be sure to catch the big-man-carrying-little-dog picture. I love that sort of stuff.

    DJ Cat

My cats have their talents, like being able to jump onto one square inch of table and not knock over the 50 million glasses sitting on it. But they are nothing like THIS cat.

What Do You Do With 9 Kittens?

Whack-a-kitty, apparently! (Note: no kitties were harmed during the making of this. Don’t call PETA.)

    A Four Pet Limit??

Curly tailed divaHere’s an interesting case of a woman who fought her village’s dog limit statutes and won. You might think that she’s some kind of animal collector, if she’s violating the limit of pets she can have, but if she is, then I am. The limit is only four pets.

She ws cited for being over the limit by just one dog. Personally, I think that’s ridiculous. If she had 20 or 30 dogs, okay. Perhaps I could see that. But she has just five. Being the owner of two dogs and three cats myself, I would be in violation of the village’s rule and I’d have to tell them where to stick it as well.

Luckily, she found a loophole in the way the law is written. It appears that the rule is actually four pets per person. Seeing as she and her daughter live together, they could actually have up to eight pets in their home. So, a judge ruled in her favor, but she might not be safe for long. From the post at ohmidog!:

Village officials, meanwhile are considering an appeal, or a rewrite. They’re also considering lowering the limit on pets to three per home in multifamily residential complexes, meaning it would impose a different standard on those who dwell in apartments, condominiums or townhouses.

Sheesh. Just another way government tries to control its people. And we pay for this. What do you think? is a four pet per household or three pet per townhouse or condominium going too far?

Name Your Dog Kitty, And, Well

…you end up with a dog that seems to be part cat. Kitty has been raised by BabyCat ever since she lost her mama when she was 4 weeks old, and that must have at least something to do with it. But it’s funny to watch her, with her cat mannerisms and methods of fighting. Kitty boxes, she doesn’t bite like most dogs do.

She also would dearly love to eat cat food, but I think we’ve finally stopped that by feeding the cats on the counter. That’s right, we feed the cats on the counter.

Excuse me, I need to go bleach my counter…

The Great Dog Swap: Day 1

    Indiana and Molly
My mom asked for and received a puppy for her birthday this past weekend. He’s another little black and white shih tzu they named Duke. Unfortunately, the grown up dogs Indiana and Molly do not like Duke at all. Now, Duke’s only been living there for a couple of days, but Indiana is beginning to concern my mom because he’s been snapping at Duke. Not good.

Mom thought if we brought my puppy Kitty over, perhaps Indy and Molly would see that Duke’s not such a bad guy and perhaps treat him a little better. Not so. Kitty and Duke get along marvelously, but Indy’s still vastly unhappy and Molly doesn’t really know what to think.

While we were watching the puppies romp in the yard, an idea was hatched. We watched Molly intently watch Kitty and Duke. Indy was inside, so Molly felt like she could watch without barking. It was decided that Indy would come home with me and Kitty would stay at mom and dad’s house.

We figured a couple of benefits would happen because of this. First, we figured without Indy’s influence, Molly might warm up to the puppies. We also decided Indy was stressed and needed some time away from all things puppy. Indiana’s a cranky old man, and my dog Tiny is a cranky old man, and when they have met on previous occasions, they’ve gotten along swimmingly.

So, home Indiana came with me, and Kitty stayed at my mom’s. Indy was like a totally different dog when he got to my house. I’m not entirely sure he’s ever seen cats before, but he did well with my cats. They seem to have an agreement. They leave each other entirely alone and give each other a wide berth when passing. My cats are used to dogs coming to visit, so they don’t bat an eye when a dog comes in unless thee dog tries to cause problems. Or, if they bark too much. The cats dislike barking immensely.

Indy cautiously walked around my house sniffing everything. Tiny came out of his room to join the party and wagged his tail happily to see his old pal Indiana again. Tiny showed off his yard to Indy, who obligingly peed on all the pertinent spots.

Indy, who is normally an incessant barker, seems to understand the cats’ “no barking” rule, as he’s hardly barked at all so far. As bedtime fell, Indy and Tiny snuggled together on my bed, Indy on top of the covers and Tiny underneath. There’s now no roon for my feet, but you can’t win them all.

Will Molly learn to get along with the puppies? Will Tiny and Indiana band together and start an anti-puppy revolution? Stay tuned.
