Did you know?![]() |
We have bluebirds in our little box on a tree in the front yard. I’ve tried peeking in and haven’t had any luck seeing the baby birds. This may be my answer for next year!
My Mom has chickens. I think it’s adorable. They keep them well fed and well watered, but what I saw on Sunday served as a vivid reminder of proper hydration of outdoor animals.
My niece’s fiance brought the watering bucket out to change the chicken water when we went out to see the birds. Of course clean water was already plentiful in their coop, but after he dumped the existing water and poured the new water, all the chickens quickly gathered and began drinking. Why? Because the water was too HOT to drink.
Change water frequently during the summer. Another idea is to freeze water in old milk cartons or other would-be throwaway liquid containers (after cleaning out, of course). Then put the block of ice outside so the water can hopefully stay cool enough to drink for several hours.
My little town has really expanded its offerings for residents as far as activities and events go. We had our first Christmas parade and 4th of July celebration last year, so this year will be the second go-round. We had a GPS Easter Egg Hunt. We paid tribute to our veterans on Veterans Day.
This year we’re talking about a Halloween event like a Zombie Walk, but I’d also like to see a Pet Parade at some point. How do you start a pet parade? The folks at the Burlingame Pet Parade offer advice,
As many watch the parade as are in the parade. We haven’t had any real problems with our parade and we do get a little more organized every years ….and we are still very disorganized!
Our rules are simple:
- No political or commercial promotions.
- Foot power only (exceptions may be arranged).
- Groups are encouraged to identify themselves with a banner or sign.
Our biggest learning is that it isn’t the pets that are the trouble .. it’s the owners!!!
Clearly cooperation with the local council & the police is a must and something that has to be scheduled early.
The good news is we would have full cooperation of our council and police! I think I’ll share this with our Parks & Recreation Department and see what we can get started!
My dogs are nuts. If we grill out and don’t put a pan under the grill, I’ll see the dogs an hour or two later chewing up the grass. I think this alternative is much better – peanut butter frozen dog treats!
Three 6 ounce Containers of Plain, Low-Fat Yogurt
1/2 Cup of Peanut Butter (Low Sodium)
1 Four Ounce Jar of Banana Baby Food
1 Tablespoon of Honey
I think I’ll try it. Can you even still buy the dixie cups?
